Lily is standing at the small bar in her kitchen pouring them each a glass of wine. She takes out a little baggie and a drop a small round white pill in each glass. She watches it fizzle with life.

“Even if your soulmate is a toxic shit for brains.”

“Do you really mean that, Clayton?”

Clay sighs, “No.”

“Do you miss him?”

Clay hesitates before nodding. “I don’t think that feeling will ever go away. But the question is do I miss him or is it my soul that misses him?”

“You feel that yearning, right? The emptiness?”

Clay looks down at the black and broken comet sporting up Lily’s arm. She’s never told him what happened.

“Yeah.” He touches his mark and hisses in pain. It’s inflamed. He picks up the glass and looks at its contents. “Whats in this?”

“Just a little upper to liven the party.”

Clay downs half the glass. A red stain slides down his chin. Lily takes her tongue and licks it off his neck with a vicious grin.

Asking anonymously because I don't want anyone to find my current blog but I'm the person who wrote that Carol of the Bells history rant. My partner and I were talking about how it tends to turn back up every December and I jokingly said "yeah, if hellsite-hall-of-fame ever reblogs it I think my soul might leave my body". But then it occurred to me that you probably did? So I checked, and you did, and my soul is, in fact, exiting my body because somehow my horrible college tumblr has a legacy.

I just wanted to share the covers to an original story I've been working on. It's soulmate, friends to lovers. I have a theme as you see, because their relationship goes through a transformation.

In Twin Flames they find out they're soulmates, they find out they have the same soulmark. Here, their soulmark starts out as a pale scar, barely noticeable. Each bares half a butterfly on their collarbone.

Jake and Clay are best friends. During their 8th year of school Clay figures out him and Jake are soulmates. Problem is, Jake thinks their friend Kayla is his soulmate. When Clay finally can’t take it anymore, he kisses Jake, accidentally Sparking with him. Jake becomes confused and starts to push Clay away, straining and their bond.

The next thing Jake knows, he feels like he’s floating. Literally. He gets a taste of this euphoric feeling before he realizes he’s being kissed. But he doesn’t care. Those soft lips against his feel like pure heaven. His fingers are slipping through golden locks and his lips are moving. That’s all he can do. The moment is never-ending. Until it is. Because it does end. And that euphoric feeling is fading, and he’s looking into his other half’s eyes, watching the red swirl around his iris for a brief time. Clarity. Jake jolts back and looks over. The elevator doors were open, and a couple were waiting to get on with smiles on their faces. He never heard it ding. “Sorry,” Jake mumbles before he squeezes past them. He hears Clay’s footsteps behind him, but he doesn’t stop. Not even when he calls his name. He doesn’t stop until he makes it to the rooftop, breathing in the tainted air that is New York City. He locks the door, hearing Clay’s cries against it. He just needed a minute. Clay just kissed him. His best friend just kissed him. But it wasn’t any kiss. This wasn’t normal. Jake wanted more like a drug and he was suddenly an addict. For Clay’s lips, his kisses. But he can’t. He can’t have him. Then why does he want him so much? Jake’s thoughts swam, he couldn’t focus. The euphoric feeling from the kiss was fading, and he was trying to hold on as much as he could. He just couldn’t believe it. Clay kissed him.

In Crimson Scars, like their relationship their soulmark grows and evolves. At this point, their soulmark is a vibrant red, sometimes you can see the wings fluttering.

Jake and Clay are in high school now. With a new school, new friends, Jake is glad he still has Clay by his side. If only he could get over this fear of coming out as soulmates.

In Soul Shock, things get heavy, due to poor life choices they get separated and have to endure the effects of Soul Shock, which is pretty much their bodies undergoing the physical effects of being away from your soulmate for too long. What happens to their soulmark is actually quite sad. It turns black, droopy and lifeless.

Starting a new chapter in their lives and leaving their childhood behind, Jake and Clay head off to college. With their newfound responsibilities Jake is struggling with adjusting to this new life with his soulmate. Between work and school, Jake feels like he never sees Clay anymore. Lonely and isolated, he runs into his old friend Bryan who introduces him to a life of partying. Clay notices a change in Jake and tries to help him. Jake becomes destructive from all the booze and drugs and he gets himself into some serious trouble. Feeling like the only way to protect Clay, he leaves him in the dead of the night. This seems to do more trouble than good once they start to experience the effects of Soul Shock. It was like their souls tearing their way through the body to get to one another. Clay was left almost dead until he meets Lily.

You could say after Jake left, a ripple effect happened. Clay becomes addicted to numbing his pain any way he could. Lily introduces him to a world where he could live without Jake and still be happy. For a while. It took Jake 6 years to come back. By that time Clay felt like he was just getting a handle of his life. After a near death Clay and Lily both try to get clean. They have an apartment together and stable jobs. Clay was just starting to feel happy.

Jake may have been off the drugs but he was far from stable. Clay doesn't take kindly to Jake crashing back into his life. They fight. They keep fighting until they’ve fought themselves all the way into bed. Not once. Not twice. But again and again. Clay can't resist him no matter how much he wants to. Jake can't just leave the dangerous life he's trying to put him behind him, though. The closer the two get once more, the more Jake drags Clay back under.
